UBS Workshop

On June 22, 2012, UBS offered an introduction to investment banking and career counselling workshop at their office in IFC for 84 Form 5 students from Kwai Chung Methodist College.

After welcome addresses from Mr. Andrew Murfin, Head of APAC Operations at UBS Investment Bank, Mr. Allen Lo, Country Head & Chief Executive of UBS AG Hong Kong Branch and the Principal of Kwai Chung Methodist College, Dr. Wong Shiu Hung, the students were given an introduction to investment banking with role plays. With the help of over 50 volunteers from UBS, the students were then divided into three groups which took it in turns to tour the trading floor and receive CV coaching and interview role play training by UBS staff. The students received highly personalised coaching given the ratio of one UBS volunteer to one or two students. The three-hour visit closed with a final closing speech delivered by Ms. Julia Ko, Head of APAC Cash Equities Middle Office and CRM at UBS.

Both teachers and students enthusiastically voiced their appreciation of the one-on-one CV coaching and interview sessions withUBS volunteers. Students also remarked on how much they enjoyed the tour of the trading floor, which gave them a better idea of what it would be like to work at an investment bank. The teachers were highly appreciative of the interactions between their students and the volunteers because it “not only forced our students to talk but also allowed them to receive immediate and direct feedback.” The students were also enthusiastic about the skills they learnt from the volunteers and commented on how friendly and nice attitude all the UBS staff were. The universal refrain was "All the activities were great!" The most common suggestion? “Make the workshop longer and run it again!”
