TWF and Oxbridge Women’s Network: An inspirational evening with Mel Mrowiec

On Thursday September 18, attendees gathered for the Oxbridge Women’s Network speaker event with Mel Mrowiec, Headmaster of Harrow International School in Hong Kong. The event was generously hosted by Linklaters.
Mel gave a brief account of his experience and grammar school and how his education experience has shaped his life and career. Having been an educator at both comprehensive and public schools, Mel is able to extract best practices from difference school systems and apply them to Harrow. He believes education needs to be engaging and challenge students to think and solve problems.

Effective learning is interactive, inspires curiosity, and discovery.  Schools also need to strike a balance when teaching their students to learn creatively while being savvy with exam systems at the same time. At Harrow, students are groomed to become "leaders of a better world", based on these guidelines:
  • Contributing positively to the community
  • Applying knowledge with compassion
  • Solving problems collaboratively
  • Solving problems creatively
  • Facing challenges with determination
