On May 30, 2012, almost 100 mentors and protégés from TWF's Mentoring Programme and members of Hong Kong's leading women's networks gathered together for a TWF panel discussion on “The Female Corporate Athlete.”
The event was hosted by Baker & McKenzie. Rachel Jacqueline, an associate at the firm, a former protégé of TWF’s Mentoring Programme and a regular contributor to the SCMP's Health Post, provided opening remarks on her own fitness journey.
The panellists comprised:
- Kirsty Boazman, CEO, Australian Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong & Macau
- Dr. Trisha Leahy, Chief Executive, Hong Kong Sports Institute
- Sarah McMullin, Product Creation Operations Director, Nike
- Judy Vas, Managing Director, Head of Office of Regulatory Affairs, Goldman Sachs
Jaclyn Jhin, Managing Director, COO/Chief Risk Officer of Global Capital Markets Asia-Pacific, Morgan Stanley, moderated the discussion.
The discussion touched on what busy executives can learn from world-class athletes and the positive impact physical challenges can have on one's personal and professional life, and explored what audience members should consider in arriving at their personal exercise regimes.
A post-event survey highlighted that the participants thoroughly enjoyed the discussion, with all respondents noting they felt inspired by the stories and examples shared by the panellists. Attendees came away with key learnings on managing an exercise regime and with an enhanced understanding about the link between fitness and self empowerment.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Rachel Jacqueline for her help in organising and shaping the event and to all our panellists and moderator for so generously sharing their knowledge and experiences. Special thanks also go to Baker & McKenzie for kindly hosting the event. Rachel will be embarking on a 100KM run in January 2013 as part of the Hong Kong 100 and will be raising sponsorship to support TWF's TEEN program for disadvantaged teens in Hong Kong. We invite you to support Rachel and TWF! Please go to http://runraerun.com for more details.
